Let’s remember the brave young men and women who are spending this Shavuos at the frontlines in a ground assault in Gaza. Let us pray fervently to HaShem and ask that He protect each and every one of them from harm.
This IDF soldier explains that this war that Hamas initiated with Israel is not about land acquisition or the issue of possible eviction of a few people from a Jerusalem neighborhood but it is about the fight for Israel’s survival. The soldier speaks about the Arab desire to obliterate Israel as they gladly volunteer to become a Shahid (selfless warrior who attacks Jews and accepts death or imprisonment). This battle is the battle for the existence of Israel as a Jewish state for our children and grandchildren and their progeny for years to come.
As they prepare to deploy as they defend their country against incessant Hamas rocket attacks, these religious soldiers can be seen gathering together while singing “Am Yisroel Chai” (the people of Israel live). After days of rocket attacks being launched against Israel from neighboring Gaza by the Iranian backed terrorist organization Hamas as well as internal strife within Israel as Arabs and Jews battle in the streets, these religious Israeli soldiers sing a song of faith, hope and the eternal message that despite the centuries-old challenges that the Jewish people endured that somehow they will survive and even thrive. As they enter the holy Shabbat and prepare for the upcoming Jewish Holiday of Shavuos these soldiers serve as a reminder to us all that we are indeed an Am Segula, a treasured nation in the eyes of HaShem.
