With the NY Mayoral primary only a month away, the polls are starting to shift towards Eric Adams, as two of the most recent polls show Andrew Yang slipping in his bid to become NYC Mayor.

The NY Post noted, Adams garnered the support of 18 percent of primary voters in the WPIX 11/Emerson College survey — while Yang was in a second-place tie with scandal-rocked city Comptroller Scott Stringer, with each getting the backing of 15 percent of likely Democratic voters. Yang’s support dropped in half from a WPIX 11/Emerson survey in March, when he was favored by 32 percent of respondents.

In another recent poll, conducted by Change Research, Adams has pulled ahead with 19% to 16% for Yang. TJV NEWS ran a reader poll which showed a statistical tie between Yang and Adams, among our readers. Before May, Yang had substantial leads in all polls.

Interestingly enough, the WPIX 11/ Emerson poll, was released the same day the NY Times published an article entitled “How Eric Adams, Mayoral Candidate, Mixed Money and Political Ambition”, which tries to make an argument that Adams in his 16 years of politics has “used government power to benefit donors and advance his political ambitions.”

The campaign issued this statement in response:

“Today’s New York Times includes a false headline and misleading article attacking Eric Adams, saying he “found ways to help donors”. No authority has determined this is the case and, in fact, there is no evidence in the Times’ article to support this outrageous claim,” said campaign spokesperson Evan Thies. “Eric has only ever used his public office to help the public. The campaign demands that the New York Times apologize for this unfounded attack immediately.”

Eric Adams released this statement in response:

“The New York Times ran a misleading story with a false headline—and they ran it on their front page,” Eric Adams said. “They said I supported affordable housing projects and homeless shelters to help donors—when, in fact, I supported those projects to help New Yorkers. No campaign of mine has ever received a serious violation because I do things by the book. So, it is hard not to feel that, as a black man, I am being held to a different standard and targeted by the Times.”

The NY Times recently endorsed Kathryn Garcia, who served as 43rd Sanitation Commissioner and had also worked with the DEP under former Mayor Bloomberg. The Times recently has written many articles critical of Andrew Yang, attacking his lack of government experience and his failure to create jobs, when he ran a nonprofit. The Times now seems to be turning their attention to Adams, as he is rapidly gaining momentum, heading up to the primary.
