Caitlyn Jenner Rails Against ‘Career Politicians’ in 1st Campaign Video

(NEWSMAX) Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympic champion and reality TV star, released her first video in her run for governor of California on Tuesday, in which she condemns “career politicians and their policies” as having “destroyed” the American Dream.

“The American Dream grew up here, yet career politicians and their policies have destroyed that dream,” Jenner says in the ad, which lasts about three minutes and debuted on ABC’s “Good Morning America.”

She adds, over footage of her athletic career in the 1970s which was mixed with clips from the modern day: “I came here with a dream 48 years ago, to be the greatest athlete in the world. Now I enter a different kind of race, arguably my most important one yet: to save California.”

Jenner, who would be America’s only transgender governor if elected, filed the paperwork to run against Gov. Gavin Newsom in a potential recall election last month.

The video also shows footage of old California intermingled with clips of fires, closed businesses, and homelessness. In a voiceover, Jenner says that she’s running to take on big government, saying that this has “taken our money, our jobs, and our freedom.”

She added, “I want to carry the torch for the parents who had to balance work and their child’s education, for business owners who are forced to shut down, for pastors who are not able to be with their congregation, for the family who lost their home in a fire, for an entire generation of students who lost a year of education.”

Although she does not mention the COVID-19 pandemic or Newsom by name, Jenner does claim that “this past year has redefined our career politicians as elitists,” while showing clips of Newsom indoors without wearing a mask while dining at a French restaurant and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., inside a hair salon without a mask on despite stay-at-home orders being in place at both times.

“California is facing big hurdles. Now, we need leaders who are unafraid to leap to new heights, who are unafraid to challenge and to change the status quo,” Jenner says over a montage of magazine covers depicting her from August 1976 to July 2016.

“California — it’s time to reopen our schools, reopen our businesses, reopen the golden gates, so I don’t care if you’re a Republican or a Democrat — I’m ready to be governor for all Californians,” Jenner concludes.

She previously said that she identifies as “economically conservative, socially progressive,” and although Jenner supported former President Donald Trump’s election in 2016, she backtracked and revoked her support in 2018 over his support for bathroom restrictions and prohibiting transgender people from serving in the military.

However, Jenner recently came out in support of legislation that bars transgender girls from competing in girls’ school sports, telling TMZ last Saturday that it’s “a question of fairness,” adding, “that’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools.”
