Sarah Thomas becomes first female to officiate an NFL Super Bowl game

(AP) Sarah Thomas made history on Sunday as she capped her sixth NFL season by becoming the first female to officiate the Super Bowl in NFL history.

Thomas, 47, a Mississippi native and mother of two teen boys and a young daughter, became the first full-time female official when she entered the league in 2015, and has continued to break gender barriers across the sport. In 2019, she officiated her first NFL playoff game.

The crew includes umpire Fred Bryan, line judge Rusty Baynes, field judge James Coleman, side judge Eugene Hall, back judge Dino Paganelli and replay official Mike Wimmer. The crew has 88 years of NFL experience with 77 combined playoff games.
