(AP) Sarah Thomas made history on Sunday as she capped her sixth NFL season by becoming the first female to officiate the Super Bowl in NFL history.
Thomas, 47, a Mississippi native and mother of two teen boys and a young daughter, became the first full-time female official when she entered the league in 2015, and has continued to break gender barriers across the sport. In 2019, she officiated her first NFL playoff game.

During Super Bowl LV in Tampa between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs, Thomas was the down judge during the game, rounding out an officiating crew of seven. The crew includes umpire Fred Bryan, line judge Rusty Baynes, field judge James Coleman, side judge Eugene Hall, back judge Dino Paganelli and replay official Mike Wimmer. The crew has 88 years of NFL experience with 77 combined playoff games.
