Gal Gadot Plunks Down $5M for Two-Bedroom Waterfront Penthouse in Malibu

For Israeli actress Gal Gadot, the end of 2020 is a most exciting time. Her new blockbuster hit “Wonder Woman 1984” has debuted on Christmas day to rave reviews and currently she is working on another sequel in the series of the comic book heroine.

On the real estate front, it appears that Gadot will be living in some pretty fancy diggs as well. Variety reported that she just plunked down $5 million for a waterfront penthouse in Malibu, California. No doubt she will have quite a few Hollywood A-Listers as neighbors.

Variety reported that her new 2000 square foot apartment has a dramatic skylight and features a floor-to-ceiling wall that rolls away for access to a large, seafront balcony. It also has three bathrooms, two bedrooms, custom cabinets, kitchen counters made of granite, two parking spots and a soaking tub. She is paying about $2500 per square foot.

The upscale condominium was purchased in 1994 for $850,000 by Bui Simon, a former Miss Universe winner and Thai philanthropist. She bought the place six years after winning the beauty contest.

The new apartment purchased by Gadot is certainly not her only home. She and her husband, Yaron Varson who is a Tel Aviv real estate developer also own homes in Israel and the Hollywood Hills. The home in the Hollywood Hills was purchased for $5.6 million about four years ago, as was reported by Variety.

Bui Simon, the seller of the Malibu pad is married to billionaire real estate developer Herbert Simon. The two own homes in Pacific Palisades, Montecito (where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex now live) and Carbon Beach, according to the Variety report.

On other Gal Gadot happenings, it was recently reported that the actress was viciously attacked on social media for being Israeli following the release of her latest film, “Wonder Woman 1984,” on HBO and in theaters. Much of the criticism centered around a scene in the film in which Gadot’s character rescues two young children in Egypt.

“F**k wonder woman the fact they had Gal Gadot, a former IDF soldier, saving little muslim children in Egypt just seemed like the biggest slap in the face like this was so intentional,” said one tweet.

One user described the scene as “too unrealistic for even a superhero movie,” doubting that someone like Gadot, who served in the Israel Defense Forces, would ever save Muslim children.

In October, it was reported that Gadot announced on her Twitter account that she will play ancient Egyptian queen Cleopatra in an upcoming film, helmed by Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins.

“As you might have heard I teamed up with @PattyJenks and @LKalogridis to bring the story of Cleopatra, Queen of Egypt, to the big screen in a way she’s never been seen before. To tell her story for the first time through women’s eyes, both behind and in front of the camera,” she wrote.

The Twitter backlash was swift, as users complained that Gadot, as an Israeli of European background, should not play a historical figure from a north African country.

Gadot previously faced backlash for a 2014 Facebook post during clashes between Gaza and Israel, in which she praised IDF troops.

“I am sending my love and prayers to my fellow Israeli citizens. Especially to all the boys and girls who are risking their lives protecting my country against the horrific acts conducted by Hamas, who are hiding like cowards behind women and children,” she wrote. “We shall overcome!!! Shabbat Shalom!”
