Who knew that Time magazine was still in existence? This once formidable weekly founded in 1923 by conservative Henry Luce, set the standard for this format by delivering to its ultimate top readership, in the 1970’s, of over 4 million, the latest current events in the United States and around the world in a simple to read, well organized manner. The magazine was compartmentalized, covering national and international affairs, business, education. science, sports and other areas of interest to the general public. But now, with changing times, poor management and its leaning, like Pisa, to the Left, we thought it had gone the way of the “Model T” and the Big Bands. But it’s still gasping for breath.
And now, amid chuckles, shock and outright bewilderment at its stupidity, this insignificant publication has awarded its Person of the Year honors to President Elect Joe Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris. Evidently, Time’s remaining hand full of Loyalist-Left staff, who, last year selected the all but useless climate activist, 16 year old, Greta Thunberg to adorn its front cover as the year’s most important person, has again taken the obedient knee to political foolishness.
Back in 2007, after selecting Russian President Vladimir Putin as its Person of the Year, the magazine wrote, stating: “Time’s Person of the Year is not and never has been an honor. It is not an endorsement. It is not a popularity contest. At its best, it is a clear-eyed recognition of the world as it is and of the most powerful individuals and forces shaping the world, for better or for worse.” Whatever that means. But this year’s choices of Biden and Harris reflect its overwhelming campaign support for the Biden/Harris ticket and all the Democrats running in the nation’s myriad of races for election.
Why did this duo of politicians beat out for this “honor,” the teams of first line health workers, doctors and scientists who put their lives at risk in fighting the Chinese Virus that has taken millions of lives to date? The distribution of a vaccine that will be distributed this very week, barely a year after the pandemic struck, was nothing short of a miracle. A president who pushed the wary pharmaceutical industry to gamble billions in an effort to create the prevention and cure, was politically ignored for this honor.
A vaccine was developed in record time. Frontline workers busted their butts for everyone else during a pandemic, a sitting president made multiple historic Middle East peace deals. But Time gives it to the guy who spent most of the campaign in his basement and his running mate who couldn’t get the support of her home state in the primaries? They get it?” wrote a congressional aide, Nate Madden. We agree and can’t wait for the last candle on the birthday cake of Time Magazine to flicker out. And may it be truly, the last candle.
