Objects to Slant on AP Article

Dear Editor:

Your online publication has truly developed into an insightful, comprehensive and, most importantly, accurate source of news for the Jewish community.

You provide the Jewish reader with the necessary blend of news on local community, Jewish Nation, Nation of Israel and world at large.

The fact that your political views are overidingly conservative (as are mine) does not interfere with your objective reporting of the news–an approach which is say vanishing from the American media.

When an opinion article is presented, it is either labeled as such or clearly distinguishable from a news article.

This morning I read your article on President Trump by Jill Colvin.

This was an unfortunate deviation from your otherwise reliable style.

Ms. Colvin’s writing was sadly biased, slanted and inaccurate.

Whether the inaccuracies were out of ignorance or intent, they’re certainly misleading to the reader.

The subjective opinion inserted into her news reporting is indicative of the current manipulative approach of most media outlets. Simply put, not only is it not news but it is harmful and misleading to the astute reader.

I implore you not to allow your wonderful publication to slip into the untruthful culture of information which surrounds us. In my humble opinion such writers have no place on your staff.

Thank you for all you do.

Shabbat Shalom

UJA Expands Job Training for NYers

Dear Editor:

In response to the overwhelming need for expanded social services and job training across the New York region, UJA-Federation of New York and several partner organizations have launched a multimillion-dollar anti-poverty initiative intended to help tens of thousands of vulnerable New Yorkers. The effort includes seven locations, or “Hubs,” that feature a suite of essential health and human services for struggling New Yorkers that will operate as a seamless network with program and service referrals based on individual client needs, with virtual appointments and trainings available.

Hubs are designed to capitalize on the expertise of multiple partners in UJA’s network, and the resources and programs at each location vary depending on the needs of the community. Among the offerings available at Hub locations are workplace development and job training, mental health services, financial and legal counseling, emergency cash assistance, and food support and services. UJA partners at Hub locations include New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG), The Jewish Board, and Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty.

The new Hubs, each offering targeted services to meet the needs of their local communities, are located in:

  • Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, in partnership with SBH
  • Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, in partnership with Edith and Carl Marks Jewish Community House of Bensonhurst
  • Lower East Side, Manhattan, in partnership with Educational Alliance
  • Elmhurst, Queens, in partnership with Commonpoint Queens.
  • Cedarhurst, Long Island, in partnership with the Marion & Aaron Gural JCC
  • East Hills, Long Island, in partnership with the Sid Jacobson JCC
  • White Plains, Westchester, in partnership with Westchester Jewish Community Services

The flagship Hub is a $10 million facility in Queens opened in October 2020. UJA is currently building a major new Hub site in Brooklyn which is scheduled to open next year.

Sincerely
UJA-Federation of New York

Cuomo Targets Only Synagogues & Churches

Dear Editor:

It seems the only time Wilhelm and Cuomo exercise any “coalition skills” is to applaud and allow the rioters to illegally congregate, run free, paint murals on the streets and loot and trash NYC. “Catholic League president Bill Donohue has censured New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for his malicious targeting of Orthodox Jews in a recent edict against the coronavirus. Mr. Cuomo plans to “shut down all churches, synagogues and schools — private, religious, and public — in an attempt to quell the spread of the disease.”

Aside from the obvious injustice of this selective targeting, I didn’t hear a word about mosques? There are more than 300 mosques in the city. Did Cuomo somehow ‘forget’ about this? Or is he too fearful of reprisals? Wilhelm tripped over himself to implement mindless AOC’s defunding of police. The murders and assaults in NYC have now set records. Cuomo just wrote a book. Maybe he’s looking for something else to fill his time. I would suggest he take up a hobby, say, paint-by-numbers, instead of targeting Jews and Catholics in NYC. We’d all be better off.

Sincerely

Freedom of Speech for Anti-Semites Only

Dear Editor:

Anti-Zionists hijack and hide behind ‘Freedom of Speech’ to spread their real anti-Jew agenda which is slowly eroding the infrastructure of our democracy. In September, Columbia University, NYC, defended inviting Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, a “self-described proud anti-Semite and Israel-hater” as freedom of speech. Mohamad is known for his public denial that six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, describes Jews as being “hooked nosed”, claimed that “Muslims were not responsible for 9/11 terror attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, but rather that the U.S. staged the events.” His latest ignorant tirade, “Muslims have “a right to be angry and kill millions of French people” just hours after an attacker yelling “Allahu akbar!” beheaded one woman and killed two others in a church in France.”

Our “freedoms” come with responsibility. Freedom of speech also means saying NO to inviting bigots to speak which lends credibility to their hate speech, and gives it a platform. Would Columbia or other universities also invite Hitler to speak? Or Neo Nazis? Or White Supremacists? Yes, Mohamad and others like him have a “right” to speak. But not a “right” to be invited to speak at any university or anywhere else where civilized people gather. Freedom of speech has been hijacked to mean you can now invite only one kind of bigot to speak on your campus- rabid, vicious, anti-semites.

This has nothing to do with Israel or its policies. This has everything to do with the lack of moral leadership of our University Presidents, pressured by anti-Israel, anti-Zionist, Jew hating students, going down the abyss of moral relativism’s moral bankruptcy. It’s peace and love time for everyone but Zionists and Jews, once again.

Sincerely
Robert Lopichansky
