Lindsey Boylan, a former aid to Governor Andrew Cuomo, took to Twitter to allege that her former boss “sexual harassed” her for her “looks”. As reported by the NY Post, Boylan, 36, who is preparing to run for Manhattan Borough President in 2021, declined to give any details or explanation. “Yes, @NYGovCuomo sexually harassed me for years. Many saw it, and watched,” Lindsey Boylan wrote on the social media platform. “I could never anticipate what to expect: would I be grilled on my work (which was very good) or harassed about my looks. Or would it be both in the same conversation? This was the way for years.”
Boylan made the shocking statement in a thread about workplace sexual harassment, and followed up later to say she did not wish to further delve into the topic. “To be clear: I have no interest in talking to journalists. I am about validating the experience of countless women and making sure abuse stops,” she tweeted shortly after.
“Not knowing what to expect what’s the most upsetting part aside from knowing that no one would do a damn thing even when they saw it. No one,” Boylan said in one of her Sunday tweets. “And I *know* I am not the only woman.” Last week, Boylan had also tweeted that the governor’s office was the “most toxic team environment” to work for.
On Sunday, a spokeswoman for Cuomo responded to allegations saying, “There is simply no truth to these claims.”
Boylan had served as deputy secretary for economic development, and a special advisor for Cuomo from March 2015 through October 2018, as per her profile on LinkedIn. As per the Post, she had abruptly resigned from the job, after there was scrutiny about her own conduct—including allegations of workplace harassment on her part. Internal documents revealed by the Post, show that in September 2018, shortly before her departure, three African American employees complained to state human resources officials that Boylan allegedly would “bully” them and “treats them like children”. There were also other misconduct allegations against Boylan, including that her travel expenses swelled to $8000, before reconciliation. Boylan reported voluntarily relinquished her position in a meeting with state superiors. A few days later she had changed her mind and asked for her job back, but that never materialized.
Boylan did not respond to the Post’s requests for comment on either her allegations against the governor, or her own workplace record.
