President Donald Trump walked out of Walter Reed Medical Center on Monday after recording a video tribute to the staff for helping his recovery and treatment of his COVID-19 infection.
“Thank you very much, everybody, thank you,” Trump told a shouting reporter, before pumping his fist and getting into a presidential motorcade vehicle.

Trump tweeted before walking out:
“Will be back on the Campaign Trail soon!!! The Fake News only shows the Fake Polls.”
White House chief of staff Mark Meadows tweeted:
“UPDATE from Walter Reed: THANK YOU all for the prayers and support. The docs have been fantastic and @realDonaldTrump has made tremendous progress since Friday. He’s in strong spirits, feeling great and as usual he won’t stop working. Thrilled he’s been cleared to return home!”
“Over the past 24 hours, the president has continued to improve,” White House physician Sean Conley said at a briefing Monday. “He’s met or exceeded all hospital discharge criteria.”
Trump “may not entirely be out of the woods,” but the rest of his care can safely be performed at the White House, Conley said.
The president received a fourth dose of an antiviral drug, remdesivir, at Walter Reed before being discharged. A fifth dose will come Tuesday at the White House, his medical team said.
“He’s returning to a facility, the White House medical unit, that’s staffed 24-7,” Conley said. “Every day a patient stays in the hospital unnecessarily is a risk to themselves.”
The president and all members of the Secret Service wore masks as they entered an armored SUV and drove to the landing zone where Marine One was waiting.
The president boarded the helicopter and it took off at 6:44 p.m.
After landing at the White House, the president walked up the stairs, took off his mask, stood and saluted as Marine One lifted off from the South Lawn.
