On Saturday and Sunday alone gun violence found seven victims in New York City, police said. As reported by the NY Post, a little before 3 a.m. Sunday, on East 187th Street in the Bronx, a 29-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen by an unknown attacker, police said. He was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition. Investigators described the victim as “highly uncooperative” in the ongoing investigation.
On Sunday at 9:40 p.m., a 30-year-old woman was shot in the ankle at 65-60 Parsons Blvd in the Pomonok Houses in South Flushing, Queens. She was in stable condition and taken to Booth Memorial Hospital, as per AMNY. Police in the 107th Precinct are searching for the gunman, who apparently knew the victim and they were in a dispute.
At 11:25 p.m. on Sunday, a 27-year-old man was shot twice in the leg by 1405 70th St. in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. As per Police, the victim said he was involved in a dispute with an undisclosed person. He was taken to Maimonides Hospital in stable condition.
On Saturday, before 10 P.M., another 27-year-old man was shot once in the chest and once in the back, in front of 108-02 Guy R. Brewer Boulevard in Jamaica. The victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital with life-threatening injuries, sources said.
On Saturday, around 2:30 a.m., a 20-year-old college student, who came to NY as a tourist from Indiana, was shot to death while making skateboarding videos with friends in Bushwick during his “dream trip”. As reported by the Post, Ethan Williams was shot in the chest by a stray bullet, near the Airbnb where he was staying. The shot came from 200 feet away, and the gun was dropped at the scene. Police do not think Williams was the intended target. He was rushed to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, as per police sources. “Ethan would have wanted the shooter to know he’s already forgiven them”, said his devastated father Jason Williams, in a phone interview on Saturday night. “He said people shouldn’t be defined by their worst moments,” the distraught dad said, describing his son. “He wanted to make the world a better place.”
The week before, over 40 people were shot last week in a flurry of gang-related shootings, with eight people losing their lives. The NYPD’s reduced force is searching through clues and surveillance videos.
