We at the Jewish Voice (JV), will again demand of our legislators to come to grips with and pass legislation to reclaim our First Amendment liberty of free speech from the likes of media giant, Facebook, and others, who have illegally targeted us for our political views. This past week, the Senate Commerce committee finally voted unanimously to issue subpoenas to the CEOs of Facebook, Google and Twitter, to re-examine the protections they must offer to their users under the Constitution’s Freedom of Speech amendment.
David Ben-Hooren, the executive publisher of the JV previously blew the whistle by calling out to our congressional leaders to force these media giants to conform to our federal laws of free speech with this impassioned letter: “As founder and publisher of the Jewish Voice I can tell you from personal experience that we have been utterly victimized by Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Google as it pertains to the egregious practice of shadow banning.
I can provide detailed evidence which offers a veritable litany of facts that illustrate precisely how we were gaining significant traction on Facebook and Twitter in terms of attracting hundreds of thousands of followers. Without warning or explanation, and quite suddenly, in March of 2018, we were summarily muffled by the big tech conglomerate. As a result, of their concerted efforts to silence us, the JV lost the lion’s share of our followers.” We are proud that we had something to do with our Congress’ awakening and finally taking action to restore our free speech in the marketplace of ideas.
Joining hands with our publisher is Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX): “Big Tech, I believe, poses the single greatest threat to free speech in our day, and the single greatest threat to democracy in our day. It should speak volumes that every member of our committee just voted to issue these subpoenas.” He went on, “There has never been such an aggregation of power in the history of humankind as big tech enjoys today, with money and monopoly, power and the hubris that comes with the unchecked use of power.” Our democracy is blessed with leaders such as Sen. Cruz.
At this moment in time, Google, Facebook and other giants in the information dispensing industry control what we read, our research and basically, the education of our children. They, through their electronic channels can arbitrarily screen out anything they deem “false” or “dangerous” to their readers’ health and welfare and feed us what they consider “truth.” And the control of our national politics is their new business. They are outspokenly anti the current administration.
They believe in “global warming,” “racism in America,” “White supremacy” and at this point in time, they are beholden to no-one. Hopefully, the Senate will, with their questioning of the leaders of these information technology giants, let the public know the dangers they and our democracy face from these businesses. And they are making fortunes while controlling our minds. We, at the Jewish Voice commend our Democrat and Republican senators for joining together with us to stop this egregious misbehavior.
