The virtual presentation of the 72nd Annual Emmy awards took place Sunday night and Canadian comedy “Schitt’s Creek” dominated the awards along with “Watchmen” however the real story was the endless display of leftist politics and nauseating Democrat party adoration on display. Late night talk show star Jimmy Kimmel hosted and took every opportunity to share his politics in this awkward presentation sans live audience.
The last 2 years Emmy presentations each set consecutive records for low ratings. With this evening centered around “woke” politics and Democratic party cheerleading, the narrow appeal of this presentation is probably not going to fare much better. When the come out, TJJV will update this story
Here are some of the “highlights” :
Kimmel delivered his opening monologue to fake live audience consisting of reaction shots from past Emmy ceremonies, before he eventually revealed that he was speaking to an empty arena at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles. When explaining the absence of a live audience, the comedian joked, “This isn’t a MAGA rally. This is the Emmys.”
Race takes center stage as host Jimmy Kimmel joined Black-ish star Anthony Anderson in a chant of “Black Lives Matter” during the live broadcast on Sunday, in a skit that saw Anderson lament how the awards show was forced to go virtual, stopping all the black nominees and winners from basking in their victory together.
Actresses America Ferrera and Issa Rae portrayed the Hollywood television industry as bigoted towards ethnic minorities during the 72nd Emmy Awards on Sunday, calling out industry gatekeepers who demeaned and insulted them at the start of their careers. Issa Rae, who stars in HBO’s Insecure, said that a series pitch with a white male executive turned sour when he tried to lecture her on what black people want to see on TV.
Actor Mark Ruffalo, who won his first Emmy Award Sunday for HBO’s I Know This Much Is True, urged people to cast their ballots in November for “love and compassion and kindness” during his impassioned acceptance speech.
Anthony Carrigan, who played a Russian from Florida, donning a USPS uniform, who says to Kimmel “it’s okay to mail in” your ballot.
AP reported: “Schitt’s Creek,” the little Canadian show about a fish-out-of-water family, made history at Sunday’s Emmy Awards with a comedy awards sweep, something even TV greats including “Frasier” and “Modern Family” failed to achieve.
Zendaya, 24, became the youngest lead drama actress winner for her role as a troubled teenager in “Euphoria.” She’s only the second Black actress to win the award, following Viola Davis’ groundbreaking 2015 win for “How to Get Away With Murder.”
“Succession,” a family power struggle over a media empire, was honored as best drama series, and creator Jesse Armstrong used the opportunity to offer “unthanks,” including to President Donald Trump for what Armstrong called his “crummy” handling of the pandemic.
“Succession” star Jeremy Strong won the drama actor trophy for his role as a potential heir to the throne.featured
Supporting drama awards went to Billy Crudup for “The Morning Show” and repeat winner Julia Garner for “Ozark.”
“Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” was again honored as best variety-talk series, with David Letterman announcing the award after being abandoned roadside by an annoyed ride-share driver.
In the cumulative awards handed out Sunday and at the creative arts events, HBO was the leader with 30 trophies, followed by Netflix with 21, Pop TV with 10 and Disney+ and NBC with eight each.
