Democrats Encourage Joe Biden Not to Debate Trump

Several little news items  revealed the Joe Biden campaign strategy- avoid the debates !

Newsweek reported:

Democratic strategists and supporters of Vice President Joe Biden are urging him not to debate President Donald Trump in the lead-up to Election Day, citing Trump’s publicity stunts and disregard for the rules in 2016. Meanwhile Biden backers, including some conservatives, applauded the University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan for cancelling their scheduled debates over COVID-19 concerns.

Former White House Press Secretary Joe Lockhart joined several Democratic Party strategists in bluntly advising Biden, “whatever you do, don’t debate Trump.” Speaking on CNN Saturday, Lockhart said Trump shouldn’t be given another platform which will enable him to “repeat lies,” which he said occurred in the 2016 debates against Hillary Clinton.

This is an interesting strategy, and the coronavirus is right there to help push forward this strategy, keep Biden off the TV, keep him out of the spotlight.

Beyond the virus, the talking point now seems to be “Trump is a liar” don’t give him a platform to lie. This is unprecedented.  Obviously there is something much deeper than the risks of the virus and “Trump’s lies”

The Hill pointed out:

A recent Zogby poll found that 55 percent of likely voters surveyed thought it was “much more” and “somewhat more likely” that Biden is in the early stages of dementia, while 45 percent thought it was less likely. That number included 56 percent of independents and 32 percent of Democrats.

More worrisome for Biden, perhaps, is that about 60 percent of young voters between the ages of 18 and 29 thought it likely that Biden is suffering early-onset dementia, along with 61 percent of Hispanics. The good news is that only 43 percent of blacks doubted Biden’s mental capacity.

The next few weeks should determine if we have a debate at all.
