New York’s legendary crime fighter, talk radio personality founder of Guardian Angels and mayoral hopeful Curtis Sliwa, met twice with residents of the Upper West Side neighborhood in New York City over the weekend to discuss maintaining neighborhood safety in the wake of thousands of homeless people — including sex offenders of children — being placed in more than 100 of the city’s iconic and luxury hotels., Breitbart reported.
The Lucerne, on 79th Street and Amsterdam, the Hotel Belleclaire, on 76th Street and Broadway, and the Belnord, on West 87th, were recently converted into homeless shelters, with nearly 300 vagrants between them. Among the residents are six pedophiles and 10 sex offenders in total, including convicted rapists and child molesters, NY Post reported.
“In order to defuse that ticking time bomb, we implemented a massive emergency relocation of human beings from those congregate shelters throughout the city, more than 10,000 in about eight weeks,” Steven Banks, commissioner of the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) said on Thursday.
The reaction from residents to the plan has been explosive.
“A Facebook group, in which residents have shared pictures of men urinating, masturbating and laying sprawled out on sidewalks near the hotels, has been set up and there are other complaints on Twitter,” the Daily Mail reported.
“Our community is terrified, angry and frightened,” one organizer of the 1,700-member group, Dr. Megan Martin, told NY Post
The Daily Mail reported on de Blasio’s plan, which includes $175 a night per homeless person lodged in a hotel. The project is projected to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, with the city paying 25 percent, while American taxpayers, through FEMA, will pick up 75 percent of the tab.
Curtis Sliwa, who is also expected to be a GOP contender for NYC mayor told the NY Post: “It is mind boggling what is happening to our city. We are here to fill the void. The most ironic thing is the police commissioner, Dermot Shea, lives right on West 73rd between Columbus and Amsterdam. He does nothing! People have gone to his apartment and complained. Nothing! You call the cops and they don’t respond, so we have to try to contain the problem”
“They are supposed to be doing security in the area. Whether it’s Department of Homeless Services cops or private security and they’re not doing that, the community is telling me,” Sliwa fumed, noting the degenerates are “pouring out into the community and all the problems that would normally take place in a shelter are now condensed in the area, and it’s just affected everything. It has been two weeks like that. No notice, no discussion”, Sliwa righteously exclaimed.
In addition to the crack, K2 smoking, Heroin injecting, speed snorting, public urination and defecation and a litany of horrific activity, 10 of the homeless placed in the ritzy neighborhood are sex offenders.

Included in those ten are Luis Martin, 44, who assaulted and raped a woman in 1995, Roland Butler, 62, convicted in 2013 of raping a 16-year-old girl, Eddie Daniel, 59, convicted of abusing a 10-year-old in 2011, Jonathan Evans, 29, convicted of abusing a 6-year-old, and Michael Hughes, 55, convicted of possessing child pornography in 2007.
“I mean, it seems to me NYC is more concerned with child rapists getting coronavirus, than normal, tax paying citizens being protected from such creeps, it’s astonishing, and I’m more than willing to cross parties and vote for a Republican, if it’s Curtis, he has my vote, this has got to stop, the City government is literally mentally deranged”, a local UWS resident told TJV.
The Guardian Angel activist’s plan calls for assigning 60 people to the Upper West Side in different shifts and the Post reported Sliwa saying “That’s a hell of a lot more than the NYPD has assigned here. I’ll go to the precinct, I’ll even go to Dermot Shea’s apartment and say, ‘Hey, you live here in the neighborhood, I live in the neighborhood, why do we have to do this? This should be an NYPD responsibility.’ But it’s not.”
“The irony is most of the people who live here are loving liberals, who would approve of this kind of action, placing pedophiles in luxury hotels and crack heads, if it wasn’t coming to their doorstep, this is what these people voted for”, a very vocal conservative UWS resident quipped to the TJV reporter.
