Jews are abandoning their once powerful political base as they flee NYC in droves. Spurred on by the threats to their health as a result of the Chinese Virus and the resultant business shutdown coupled with the current civil disorder, they are jumping ship as they scatter to more favorable and safer locales. Of course, those fleeing the Big Apple are those who can afford the move, leaving behind to fend for themselves, their working class brothers and sisters, to await who knows what fate has in store for them. We cannot ignore the ever growing Black Lives Matter Movement, born with the incubating virus-like gene of Jew Hating at its core. We’ve seen and noted its early mobs marching in the streets of NYC. They will grow, for sure.
And to add to the Jewish problem, the recent New York Democrat primaries have removed two fervent Democrat Congressional supporters of American Jewry and Israel. Eliot Engel, who has served in congress for more than 30 years and is Chair of the House Foreign Relations Committee, lost to Jamaal Bowman, a former middle school principal, and retiring NY Representative Nita Lowey, will be replaced by attorney Mondaire Jones. Both these soon-to-be House members, sure to join up with The Congressional Black Caucus, line themselves against Prime Minister Netanyahu’s plans to annex portions of Judea and Samaria.
They both call for a two state solution and for Israel to treat its Palestinian neighbors with more respect, falsely likening the plight of American blacks with those of the Palestinians. Both, during the electioneering game, waffled on reducing our country’s financial support for the Jewish State. Once they’re ensconced safely in office, what will they do? Mr. Jones goes so far as to call for Jerusalem to become a shared capital for both the Jewish and the new Muslim state of Palestine. What happens if both of these guys fall under the thumb of fellow House members, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ocasio Cortez? Then what?
New York City was home to incoming Jews from Europe going back to the mid-1800’s. They came with nothing. They studied, gambled on their skills as merchants. They led in the retail, clothing and manufacturing businesses. They entered professions, had productive families. They voted in politicians who supported them. And now this once vibrant, energetic, fearless community is fading in numbers and influence. The power brokers among our community are relocating to Florida, the Jersey Shore, East Hampton and other places where, with their funding, they can live in luxury and safety.
We are calling on those remaining and those contemplating leaving to re-consider. Remain with us in the city. Continue supporting the Jewish community by speaking out for them, by putting in office those who will represent us. The vacuum created by the loss of so many of our brethren will be filled by others perhaps hostile to our dwindling numbers. Our relevance in the City for the last 150 years is in peril. Remain here. We need you.
