Accused Looter Involved in Attack on NYC Cop Freed by Judge; No Bail Set

Lawlessness with an official sanction appears to be the order of the day.

 

Case in point: the left-leaning New York City judge who allowed a suspected looter – who was charged with slamming a police officer over the head with a bong – out the door to freedom.

 

The rioting and looting, of course, come in the wake of the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, back on May 25

 

Judge Laurie Peterson overruled prosecuting attorneys – and then let the defendant go with no bail.

 

“What could she possibly be thinking? Is she living under a rock? Did she see the looting going on in the city?” one police officer told the New York Post. “I guess they really want to do away with cops and let the criminals run wild.”

 

Prosecutors alleged that 22 year old Kevin Bullock was one of the people who broke into a smoke shop near the intersection of Walker and Baxter streets on June 1.

 

The New York Post quotes law enforcement sources as saying that Bullock has a rap sheet listing 23 prior arrests.

 

It was four years ago that Judge Peterson caused a sensation when, as the Post recalls, “a defendant she released without bail in an unprovoked assault on a woman in Greenwich Village went on to allegedly slash the faces of two other women, including one the very next day after he was sprung. Peterson had been warned that the defendant, career criminal Kari Bazemore, was considered to pose a “high risk” of flight but refused to set $1,000 bail sought by the prosecution. Bazemore was later deemed mentally unfit for trial and committed for psychiatric treatment.”

 

As disgusting as letting people get away with mayhem is, it is a situation that is far from specific to New York City. Just a week ago, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt verbally attacked St. Louis’ chief prosecutor for letting suspected rioters and looters go, even after the riots in question saw four police officers shot and a retired police captain killed.

 

“In a stunning development, our office has learned that every single one of the St. Louis looters and rioters arrested were released back onto the streets by local prosecutor Kim Gardner,” Schmitt said in a Wednesday tweet accompanied with a video showing a burning vehicle and several audible gunshots and police sirens,” Fox News reported.

 

“Public safety in the city of St. Louis is critical,” the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office tweeted. “A few cases involving stealing from the looting incidents were referred to our office. In an effort to hold the offenders accountable, we need essential evidence from the police. These matters remain under investigation.”
