Ex-WeWork CEO Asking $37.5M for Gramercy Duplex

Former CEO and co-founder of WeWork, Adam Neumann has officially put his home on the market. As reported by the NY Post, he is asking $37.5 million for his posh Manhattan duplex in the Gramercy neighborhood. Talk has been circulating, since back in December, that the 41-year-old former office-sharing executive was prepping to sell his newly remodeled home, and the news has been confirmed on Thursday. Real estate agent Nick Gavin of Compass has been entrusted with the listing. Both the agent and Neumann declined to comment.

As per public records, in 2017 Neumann had purchased four apartments, including the penthouse, in the white-glove, pre-war condo building for a total combined purchase price of $35 million. The 1920s seven-story condo building at 78 Irving Place is located just a block away from Gramercy Park on East 19th street. Although the purchase of the Gramercy condos was made by hiding their behind a limited liability company, subsequent construction applications filed during remodeling revealed the owners’ identity. The point of contact named in the city’s building documents was Adam Neumann’s then chief of staff.

He and his wife, Rebekah Paltrow Neumann, also WeWork’s co-founder, would upgrade from their historic Greenwich Village townhouse, which they had purchased in 2013 for $10.5 million. The couple made extensive revamps to the Gramercy home over the last three years. They combined the existing duplex penthouse with the full floor below, to craft a sprawling three-story luxury pad. The resulting apartment includes four bedrooms, plus a master suite which encompasses an entire floor. The home boasts an eat-in kitchen, living room and dining room at the top floor, with an 800-plus-square-foot roof deck. A dramatic spiral staircase descends to all three levels at the center of the apartment. Four additional bedrooms of varying sizes and amenities are on the middle floor. The entire fifth floor is dedicated to the Neumanns’ master suite, featuring an L-shaped bedroom and sitting room. The other half of the expansive bedchamber boasts a large dressing room and office, as per floor plans detailed by the NY Post.

The listing boasts a total of six and a half elegant bathrooms, for a total livable area of 7,880 square feet. Pictures of the home show sophisticated interiors draped in a blank palette of whites and grays, and pampered with chandeliers and Art Deco-inspired particulars.

The $37.5 million price tag includes the re-done penthouse, as well as the smaller of two first-floor duplexes that the Neumanns also own. The listing writes that the additional 1,245 square-foot apartment is “perfect for guest or staff accommodation.”
