Mike Bloomberg Considering 2020 Run for the WH; Expected to File for Alabama Primary

According to published reports, former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg has had a change of heart about his political ambitions and is preparing a potential run for the White House in 2020. A spokesperson for the billionaire philanthropist told CNN that Bloomberg is expected to file the necessary paperwork to get on the Democratic primary ballot in Alabama this week. This step is a clear indication that the former mayor of the Big Apple is giving serious consideration for a bid at the 2020 presidential race as he tried to get on the Democratic primary ballot in Alabama this week.  

In March of this year, Bloomberg said he would not run for president on the Democratic ticket, despite the fact that he indicated his interest in running. His spokesman said that he had been weighing the decision for weeks.

Despite preparing to file the necessary paperwork in Alabama, Bloomberg has yet to make a final decision on a run, the spokesman added.

CNN reported that the reason Bloomberg is filing in Alabama is strictly because of the state’s early filing deadline. Despite it not being an early nominating state — Alabamans will pick their Democratic nominee on March 3 — the state has a filing deadline on Friday.

Pundits have speculated that Bloomberg’s decision to possibly enter the Democratic race for the presidency is because former Vice President Joe Biden’s campaign is floundering since the new emerged about his son, Hunter Biden raking in $50,000 a month from a Ukrainian energy company named Burisma and the controversy over his role in the corrupt company. It has now been reported that Amos Hochstein, an advisor  to Joe Biden took a meeting with a Burisma hired lobbying firm named Blue Star Strategies. A former Obama State Department official confirmed to the Washington Examiner that Hochstein took the initial meeting with Blue Star Strategies without the firm invoking Biden’s name to Hochstein, as they did with Catherine Novelli, President Barack Obama’s undersecretary for economic growth, energy and the environment.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, (D-MA) has campaigned against billionaires like Bloomberg and is now showing very well in recent polls. A possible Bloomberg bid would be sure to dramatically shake up the Democratic primary process, according to a CNN report.

CNN reported that Bloomberg has privately expressed concerns about the strength of the 2020 field, according to a person familiar with his thinking. And a Democratic strategist who has previously worked with Bloomberg said the former mayor is reconsidering his options, in part, because of the outcome in this week’s elections in Virginia, where investments from his gun control group helped Democrats win control of the General Assembly.
