Minister of Internal Security Gilad Erdan ordered the prevention of a conference that was to take place today in Jerusalem under the title “Jerusalem the capital of Palestine” under the auspices and funding of the Palestinian Authority *
Minister Erdan: “I will continue to act in every way to prevent the violation of our sovereignty in all parts of our capital.”
Minister of Public Security and Strategic Affairs Gilad Erdan signed an order today to prevent a conference under the title “Jerusalem, the capital of Palestine” on Friday in the Old City of Jerusalem under the auspices and funding of the Palestinian Authority. The event was to include Palestinian national songs and songs of praise to the Palestinian Authority, the distribution of PA certificates and recognitions, and the participation of Palestinian Authority activists.
The order of Minister Erdan instructs not to conduct the activity in Jerusalem, in accordance with section 3 (a) of the Implementation of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip (Restriction of Activity) Law, 5755-1994, which prohibits the Palestinian Authority from opening or operating a representative, and authorizes the Minister of Public Security to prohibit such activity.
In recent years, Minister Erdan has adopted a broad prevention policy against the holding of events financed or attended by members of the Palestinian Authority in the sovereign territory of the State of Israel. Among other things, Minister Erdan initiates an amendment to the legislation that will allow indictments to be filed and ask the court to serve up to three years in prison for organizing such events that violate Israel’s sovereignty and application law. In the past year, the minister extended the order to close the Orient House building and other institutions of the Palestinian Authority In East Jerusalem, issued closure orders for a commemorative event in East Jerusalem funded by the Palestinian Authority, for a conference in Silwan that promoted the Palestinian takeover of East Jerusalem and other events sponsored and financed by Palestinians planned for Jerusalem.
Erdan: “The Palestinian Authority continues to try to harm Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem and to incite against the State of Israel … I will not allow this and will continue to act to prevent any violation of Israeli sovereignty in all parts of our capital Jerusalem.”
